SHADUF PROJECT DATABASE

One of the tasks of the SHADUF Project was the setting up of a database. In the lifetime of the project, partners from different countries in the Mediterranean Region, with a variety of traditional water management techniques, made several attempts to develop a database to provide a standardized format for data entry and to serve as a basis for further additions.

Following experimentation with a database developed by IPOGEA with standardized icons, the Consortium opted in Florence (18th-20th January 2007) for a simplified database (see Traditional Water Harvesting Techniques).

The database categories proposed by Fekri Hassan consist of the fields shown below. Following a discussion of the proposed database structure in Florence, a computerized database framework was prepared by IPOGEA (Database Form). All entries are in English, with transliteration from original languages as necessary (see Guidelines for Database Form, prepared by Fekri Hassan). Users may refer to the glossary for the meaning of terms used in English, and to the translations into Arabic, Italian, and Greek.
