It became in the course of this project that there are diverse names for the same technique, even within Arabic speaking countries. Also, the appropriate translations of certain terms was often not clear. Accordingly, and following an initiative by Fekri Hassan during the Jordan meeting, it was decided to compile a glossary of Arabic words related to water harvesting techniques with equivalent translations into English. The translations into Italian and Greek were then carried out by SHADUF partners IPOGEA and NAGREF respectively. Arabic terminology was also augmented by suggestions from Arabic speaking partners. The glossary is a first approximation and requires further development to standardize the transliteration of Arabic terms, and to eventually make translations into other languages. Users are encouraged to submit suggestions for corrections, additions, and translations.
