The Human Science Faculty, Archaeological team consists of pre-history researchers, historians, antiquity archaeologists and Islamists, designers, cartographers and specialists in Rural Geography.
The Consortium Environnement is an interdisciplinary group very active with reference to fragile Mediterranean areas management. It has developed an interdisciplinary approach, participating in the management of natural resources (soil studied: Ziz and Draâ valleys and oasis).
La Maison de l’Environnement Fès – Meknès is an initiative of ATLAS-SAÏS Association, develops programmes and tools related to environment concerning : information and education, awareness on promotion of preventive strategies, organisation of regional databanks and information systems, management of proactive territorial projects, supporting interaction between institutions and socio-economic organisations, population participation, development of concertation areas and forums. The interest payed by the European Commission (Programme LIFE), of the Environment State Secretariat, of the Trade and Industry Ministry, of the Agricultural Ministry, of the Urban Community for la « Maison de l’Environnement » is proof of the success of the structures’ initiatives. La Maison de l’Environnement Fès – Meknès is either leader or partner of several projects involving universities, public institutions and associations.

Mohamed Makdoun
Professor and team leader, is specialised in Classical Archaeology (Ancient Urbanistics, Stratigraphy, Ceramology, Architecture, precious objects); is member of the UFR « Histoire de Meknès et sa Région » and responsible of project PROTARS « Recherche Archéologiques sur le partie Nord et Nord-Est du quartier monumental de Volubilis ». He has been participating in the biannual international works « l’Africa Romana » since 15 years.
Professor Samir El Jaafari
Professor Samir El Jaafari participated in several International Cooperation projects on Water, Environment; margin Agrosystems, methodological Approaches for natural resources management with local actors (20 publications, 80 press releases): Projet Avicenne CE – Santé et Eau (1994-1998). Coordinator of MED-CAMPUS training project for trainers on the subject: “Multidisciplinary Environmental Management of Mediterranean Fragile Areas”.
He participated in the evaluation of PROTARS projects (1999-2000) in the “Endurable Ecosystem Management” framework. Expertise requested by the Ministry of Higher Education of Management Training and Scientific Research, CNR, Morocco. Expert in many Euro-Mediterranean partnership forms and member of the coordinating committee « Système d’Information et développement d’un logiciel d’écobilan à l’évaluation agri-environnementale et valorisation par la formation de conseillers en environnement – Application pilote à la Région de Meknès-Tafilalet » (DGCI-Belgium, Région Wallonie-Bruxelles, PROTARS-Morocco). Partner of « Foggara, Inventory, analysis and valorisation of traditional water technique of European and Saharan drainage tunnels » (2003-2005).
Mustapha El-Rhaiti
Professor (Classical Archaeology, Latin Epigraphy, Volubilis Onomastics, Archaeological design, Ground Architecture, Cultural Tourism). He is in charge of the study on « la Famille des Ocratii de Volubilis ».
Brahim El-Fesskaoui
Professor, specialist in Rural Geography, performs research on water and settlements on Saharian tourism, on oasis society, on Ground Architecture and Environment. Consultant of the Bureau d’Etudes « Sciences du développement et de l’urbanisme », responsible for « Environnement et Aménagement » project in partnership with the Al-Akhawayn d’Ifrane University.
Aboulkacem Chebri
Director of the Centre for Research and Studies alaouites, Rissani, Tafilalet, Morocco. Specialist in Medieval Islamic Archaeology. Responsible for a study on « Les récits de voyages et les itinéraires d’après les écrits des géographes arabes du Moyen-Age ».
M’hammed Alilou
Specialist: Cartography and Archaeology Design, Designer for the Conservation of Volubilis.
